Swing Dance Class


The Swing Class is taught by Lynn Neuman and Toby Billowitz of Artichoke Dance Company. As professional dancers, Lynn and Toby provide excellent instruction in a fun and relaxed environment with low pressure and lots of laughing. Join the class to learn the Lindy, West Coast Swing, East Coast Swing and the tricks to move between them, The class offers a flexible, drop-in structure.

Capoeira Classes


The Capoeira Class at NYR Studios takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning October 6, 2008 from 7:00PM-8:30PM. The cost is $15 per person, per class and is taught by Instructor Alegria. Capoeira (Pronounced ka-poo-eyh-da) is an African-Brazilian martial art that incorporates acrobatics, dance, music, and songs in a rhythmic dialogue of body, mind, and spirit. It is a quick way to a powerful and lithe body and mind. The student will get stronger, learn to defend themselves and have fun doing all of it! Haven't checkout out our Samurai Sword class yet? Well, there's no time like the present. Recently, Raab Rashi's class was selected by NYPress as 2009's Best Way to Feel Like a Stud.
The Samurai Sword Class, began on September 24th and takes place every Thursday from 6:00PM to 7:00PM. The price per class is $15 and is taught by Raab Rashi, a certified black-belt. The martial art, called “Siljun Dobup” (a.k.a. Real Sword Training) was developed by Grand Master Jin K. Seong and focuses on the drawing and sheathing of the blade, and making “the perfect cut.” The class is appropriate for teenagers and adults. Any interested parties are invited to attend a free introductory lesson. NYR STUDIOS EXTENDS OFFER FOR DISCOUNTED RATES; NEW CLASSES ANNOUNCED:

In the spirit of cultivating a large artistic community, NYR Studios has decided to extend its offer of discounted rates for its rehearsal studios through the month of October. NYR Studios recently transitioned to a new, arts-oriented management in an effort to create an artistic community in conjunction with its rehearsal spaces.

Many artists and organizations are already taking advantage of the friendly and accommodating environment NYR Studios offers. Kinesis Project dance theatre is the resident dance company, and has begun offering weekly classes at the NYR Studios facilities. These classes include: a Samurai Sword class, a Capoeira class, a Lindy class, a Lunchtime Yoga class, and a Latin dance workshop for beginners. All of the movement instruction offered through Kinesis Project are open and beginner friendly. Each class is a full-body experience aimed at staying fit, creative, and social.

A four week Beginner Latin Dance Workshop takes place on Tuesdays October 6 through November 3, 2009 at NYR Studios. The classes, which feature instruction in salsa, rhumba, cha-cha, and more, are taught by Brian Wesley. The workshop is being offered at the affordable rate of $60 per person for all four weeks. Most recently, NYR studios welcomed a Lunchtime Yoga teacher. Join classes with Jivamutki teacher, Katelin Sisson, for 50 minutes of a Vinyasa practice open to all levels. This is a challenging yet gentle way to spend lunchtime in guided movement while building strength and simultaneously relieving stress.

These classes are all offered at NYR Studios, which is housed in the Workmen’s Circle Building, at 45 E. 33rd Street on the 6th floor. The building is conveniently located next to the 6 subway line on the east side (near 33rd and Park Avenue).

NYR Studios' rehearsal rooms are available in sizes ranging from 8x11 to 30x24 with prices ranging from $7 to $30, respectively. Four of the aforementioned rooms include a well-tuned piano for music lessons. There are also studios set up for various forms of dance. Teachers interested in having a home for their voice coaching practice are encouraged to call NYR Studios.

In addition to the rehearsal rooms available on the 6th floor, the 1st floor of the building offers an intimate 70 seat theater. This space is perfect for fundraisers, networking events, performances, or staged readings. Basic sound and light packages are included in the affordable and negotiable rental rate.

Flux Theatre Ensemble

Mind The Gap

Mission Statement: Mind The Gap Theatre exists to find, read, evaluate, develop and ultimately produce new British theatrical writing in New York City. While our focus is on presenting new British works, with a company of mad talented actors and playwrights from BOTH sides of the pond, we occasionally like to show off what the Yanks in our company can do by taking a new American play to the UK.
